HOPE AND CHANGE?

Yesterday was our Nations birthday.......and sadly 26% of this Country did not know that we fought Great Britain for our independence, how sad is this? This is the fault of our education system as well as families for not teaching these very important facts to their children.Growing up my Father always expressed how great this Country is,and how lucky we are to live in such a place. He stressed nothing is given to you,you want something, you should work hard to get it. But in today's logic, people are standing around waiting for a handout, and BELIEVE they are deserving of one. This same 26% that didn't know our history,I am sure are the same kind of people who voted for Barrack Obama as President, because it was the cool thing to do.........well how is that unemployment working out for you......is that cool?We are a very privileged Country, and we have taken our liberties for granted for too long.We have become lazy where it is easier to stay on unemployment or go on welfare than to actually put down the remote, get off the couch and go look for a job.Yeah sure there are some who actually need help, but the great majority are content to be on some government assistance of some kind.

I feel bad for my friends and relatives who actually believed the the bull that candidate Obama spewed for over 2 years. These are educated people, but sadly, lazy educated people.I am talking about some who believed EVERYTHING that was spoon fed to them, instead of researching what he is saying,or just take a look at his prior bleak voting record. Here are just a few of the broken promises.
Iraq,out-NO
Friends around the globe-NO
No new taxes on anyone making under $200,000-NO
Israel-NO
No Lobbyist-NO,matter of fact, record amount of lobbyist in this administration.
No Back Door Deals-kidding,this is Chicago style politics 101
Work with both sides of the aisle-NO
ALL Bills debated on CSPAN-just Health Care,BUT after some fighting for it
Bills to be posted on the Internet for 5 days before voting-3 days now after calling the Presidents bluff.
General Petraeus nominated by Pres.Bush-matter a fact re appointed by Pres Obama
Patriot Act-MORE intrusive than when Pres Bush was in office
Transforming America-SADLY YES
Transparency-HELL NO

These are just a few that candidate Obama promised, can you see why I feel bad for my friends and relatives? He said he wasn't a regular politician, that is why you should trust him.In actuality,he is worse. He is a typical Chicago politician, says one thing in front of the camera, and then does the exact opposite when the cameras are gone.He only became the Illinois Senator after playing very DIRTY CHICAGO STYLE POLITICS with some of the most corrupt in Illinois:Daley,Madigan,Mell,Axelrod,Rahm,Jarrett, and too many more to list.

We all heard of the Hope and Change mantra, but come on......HOPE? Vice President Biden just said this past week,"there is NO WAY we will be able to recoup the 8 million jobs lost." Where the hell is the Hope there? Presidents and their administration for years have said because we are Americans,we can do anything, this is the land of opportunity. That is why millions have come here, to live in the GREATEST Country in the world, and also to LIVE the American dream. This administration is good on crushing dreams, and slowing the entrepreneurial spirit. This Country was built on small businesses, but the Bills and legislation being passed have slowed growth in this Country to a snails pace. This administration has taken over auto companies, car dealerships, banks and a insurance company, with the excuse,"too big to fail."History and facts tell us,the less government in our lives, the better for the Country. The Health Care Bill that was passed with backroom deals, bribes and threats, and is nothing more than rationing of care and bankrupting the Country at the same time.Don't believe me,put down your people magazine, shut off Oprah, and read the Bill and the Facts. Facts are a crazy thing, they don't lie,but talking heads out of Washington do.Now this crazy energy Bill going around, changing its name every chance they get,but what doesn't change,is what is inside. If this Bill passes,no kidding, this will change America as we know and love it.This Bill reads like a scary science fiction novel......your government will control your electrical usage, with a special device they will install in your home......pretty crazy huh, well sadly it is in the Bill.Don't believe me,again read the Bill.

We have witnessed, to get a job or an appointment with this administration, you had to either have played basketball with the President, attended Harvard with him,or traveled in the same questionable circles in Chicago.Qualifications don't really matter,it is who you know, and that is the Chicago way.Qualifications?Hell,if he cared about qualifications, why does his economic recovery advisory group, only consist of 17% of any REAL business experience? Wouldn't it be nice to have people in there that have ran companies, and know what it is like to balance a business checkbook? Just saying, but then again,I didn't go to Harvard. This President has played political payback, instead of doing what is best for the Country since the day he took office. He appointed Harold Koh,a Harvard friend,to the State Department who believes we should govern at times by Sharia Law,no joke, but then again he nominated a woman,Elena Kagan,Chicago friend, who thinks the Constitution should change with the times. But then again Candidate Obama on local Chicago radio station said the same thing.I don't know about you,but 234 years the Constitution has served us well. This is just a sampling of the scary people in the White House and surround our president.Sounds crazy,Google his staff and his inner circle, and a scary science fiction movie might be to lenient,it is more of a horror story in the making.

I know politics is tough, and you need thick skin to last, thin skin people no need to apply, unless you are Barack Obama. The media has coddled him for 2 years during the campaign, and a year or so of his Presidency, and even talked about the thrill up their leg they have gotten. But no media outlet has the guts to question his appointments, numerous broken promises, and just pure lack of leadership. When a pundit does make a call,he or she is being called a racist, and not being fair.Sorry it isn't racism,it is someone asking an important question about the state of our Country, but that race card is getting really tiring, and some point the questions need to be answered. We were led to believe that we elected the smartest man to be in the White House, but this same man blames everyone else, but him, thinks the Statue of Liberty didn't come from France, and that we have 57 states, in the United States. The Christmas Day bombing incident, took him days to respond, the Gulf leak spill days to respond, but couldn't say who was actually in charged, because that changed on a daily basis, floods in Nashville, never responded,Arizona Law SB 1070, responded with false facts and propaganda. But this a President who never missed a round of golf, vacations, hobnobbing with the celebrity elite,or anything that doesn't actually have to do with governing.

Now we are all experiencing the Change he promised, and I have to tell you,it is scaring the crap out of me.We are not a perfect Country, but the next best thing. Our liberties and freedoms are being played with, and I don't like it.I don't like being told I MUST have health care and how much,or face possible jail time......I don't think that the government should mandate every house in this Country have certain kinds of windows, insulation, appliances, flooring before I can sell my home........I don't believe the government should be able to install a device to monitor my electric usage.......I don't believe the government should tell me what I could or could not eat......it is my body, but then again,it is ok to kill an unborn baby, but not ok to put that cheeseburger in my mouth........This isn't CHANGE,this is friggin Russia in the making!

This is the United States of America, and if you DON'T like what the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and our Flag stand for, fell free to GET THE HELL OUT,and move to a Communist Country where you will feel more at home, and take your HOPE AND CHANGE with you!

THANK YOU!

I would first like to start out by saying,"THANK YOU,ONE AND ALL".

These past 23 years have been a remarkable ride, and I enjoyed every minute of it.But I want to thank you for the love, flowers, cards, and wine, but more importantly for the kind words and wishes you have given me.I am truly blessed to be able to have met so many wonderful people through the years. I have made lasting friendships, and memories that would not of been possible if not for this special little store.Grand Slam was just not only a place to get your latest movie, but a place to stop and talk, and share a story or two.We have shared stories, recipes, talked current events, and talked what was going on in our lives. At some stores, you are a name and number, but at Grand Slam, you were my family and always glad to see you walk through the door with a smile and whatever story you wanted to share.Over the years I have asked some to leave and not return,or just revoked their membership, because I felt their attitude, and comments didn't belong.I felt it was my job to protect who came and went here.It was a honor to have your loyalty to me,so I always wanted my customers to feel safe and not intimidated. You all know I am a small, but spunky and I speak my mind, but you ALWAYS knew I had your best interest at heart.Grand Slam lasted for so many years, because of you,you made my job easy.I loved what I did,and the interacting with each and everyone of you.No other store does,or WILL EVER have the same interactions I had with you. First, they probably would be sued, and second, mine came from the heart, and at other businesses you are a just a name and number.

Over the past 23 years, many things have occurred, deaths, marriages, breakups, births,or just plain life.Grand Slams journey began in November of 1987.The first year,we were across the street,Victor was my landlord, but more than that,he was a wonderful soul who always made me smile.I knew Victor since I was a young little tot on Racine/Grand.Whenever I needed to cross the big ole Grand Ave,Victor would hold my hand, and cross me. As I grew into an adult,Victor was the same great soul, and typical old school Italian.Sadly,he is no longer with us,but he left behind a wonderful family I love dearly. Antonella and Tina your Dad was a great man,and his goodness shines through you.

Lena,Ashley,Nicole,Jazzy, and Adriana,I like to think of them as "Tootsie's Angels".When I look at each of these five young girls,I see a young me. They are honest, smart, have guts, stand up for they believe is right, don't pick fights, but WON"T run from one either. They get these characteristics from their parents, who I have known for many many years, who are also loyal and honest.I will miss my talks with them,or even my yelling at them. They knew I only wanted the best for them, and also had the permission to give a swift kick if necessary. Thankfully it never came to that. Girls, you know I am never to far away if you need me.

Over the years I have told stories of the neighborhood that once was. Some seem to think because homes now cost $300,000- to a million, that it is a better place to live. I say sorry, homes don't make neighborhood, people do.Don't get me wrong there are some great people here, like Cassie who owns the Green Grocer. She had a dream, and we were lucky enough for her to open her store in our magical neighborhood. You can not only get the best produce there is,but the way she treats each and everyone of us that walks through her door, you are not a customer, but a friend. That is the same kind of friendliness we were all raised with in the old neighborhood.I also like to tell you about Alex, who has Alfie and Honey, who we all love and adore, and is married to Pete. You see,Alex tries to come off rough and tough, but in reality she has a heart of gold, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Alex is the one who when the big snow fall comes, she is shoveling in front of old man Rocco's house, not because she was asked too,but because she thought it was the right thing to do.At holiday times, she always inquires about a family she can help with food or whatever. This is just a couple of examples of some of the great people who have moved into our hood.We are lucky to have them. But there are still wonderful people here, who were raised here, one in particular, that is Anabell. Anabell we all know is a sweetheart, but more importantly a great friend.I have known Anabell since she was a teenager, but became close friends when we both were helping out at Santa Maria. Anabell is someone who is always willing to lend a helping hand, and never asking for anything in return. She has always been there when I needed her most,in particular one day in November of 2008.Comanche my beautiful Siberian Husky got sick all of a sudden, and then took a turn for the worst. It was her and Aurellio, who I occasionally tease, but I love him dearly, who took Comanche to the vet,and stayed with him as he went to the Rainbow Bridge in the sky.She did this because I could not bare it.Friends like that are not only rare, but a gift,I don't only feel lucky to call her friend, but a great friend indeed. They have a son Daniel, who is my God-Child,and I only want the best for him,but I am sure he is relieved some what that the store is closing, because dusting movies as a punishment never went well with him.

As this chapter of my life ends, and another begins,I like to give a big I LOVE YOU,to ALL "the old neighborhood friends". I have said it once,I will say it again, there are no better people than the people from Grand Avenue. We were a family within a family. Our families gave us the greatest gift, they gave us Grand Avenue, and with that we got one another. It is a special bond, yet so hard to explain to people from the outside. That said, friends from long ago have stopped by to share memories, say hellos and goodbyes, and watch another milestone pass us by.Before Grand Slam, this was the Bamboo Hut,two stores that brought great joy to the neighborhood .It was the neighborhood who made the Bamboo Hut and Grand Slam a success.

So at this time,I once again want to THANK YOU for your patronage for the past 23 years of business, but more importantly I want to thank you for your friendship. I am honored to have met each and everyone of you.

May God Bless you and your family today and everyday.
Tootsie

February 2,2010 :The Day The Republican Party Died

I sit hear amazed that the corrupt political machine once again won,and us, the average Joe was kicked to the curb. This all in the name of power, greed and ego, and nothing to do with serving the people.

We had a chance to send a message to Party leaders, local and national, that our state can not be bought. But silly me,I forgot this is Illinois, where anything goes.I guess the more dirty baggage you have the better. The politicians wear their corruption on their sleeve like it is something to be proud of.I have never seen more people energized for an election to get the old school corruption out, and new honest blood into the system. The average Joe,(you and I), really never had a chance. How do we compete with a open checkbook from the National Republican Party? How do we compete with the many state employee foot soldiers working to get the vote out?I said it before,I will say it again, the National Party has no business getting involved with local primaries. My question is,if the Party say they represent all Republicans, then why did they work so hard to squash the other candidates? Are not primaries set up, for the people to choose who we want to represent us? Then why back in August did Michael Steele say on the Wade&Roma show the "full force of the Republican Party will help Kirk"?How is this fair to the other candidates, but more importantly, is this fair to the people of Illinois?

This past primary I asked many friends and relatives to vote Republican,so they can cast a vote for Patrick Hughes for Senator. It is a funny thing to ask a Democrat to ask for a Republican ballot,it is like asking then to put their hand in fire. They are all smart thinking people, and they knew what this election means to them and their families. They also knew Patrick Hughes was the candidate who would vote NO on Cap&Trade and help slow down these job killing policies coming out of Washington. They put party aside, and voted what was best for their family. And to all of you,THANK YOU.

Now to the registered Republicans, who voted for Kirk,Topinka,Brady,Dillard and McKeanna,I say shame on you!You people are the real kool aide drinkers. Because of your lack of common sense, we the people of Illinois, for the next few years will have to continue to grab our ankles.Happy? Please tell me how you can vote for a candidate, who purposely ignored debates? A candidate who voted YES to Cap&Trade, and let us not forget,a Bill HE DID NOT READ.How do you vote for a man who doesn't believe in the sanctity of life? The most precious Gift God can give us.Here is man who will fight for trees and flowers, but will vote against saving an unborn baby.I believe when people are more concerned with Jim living with Joe, and Mary living with Lisa, than protecting a unborn child, you have lost your way,and don't know right from wrong. The registered Republicans of Illinois, who vote party regulars, you let your state down. Are you that insecure in your own life you are not able to think on your own?Are you not able of telling a good candidate from a bad candidate, that you need that small piece of paper to tell you who to vote for?For Gods sake, this is the United States of America, and we have that right, a right that you have taken for granted. There are people around the world who have died for that right, and here we can only muster a 35% turnout?I don't know what is worse, people too lazy to take 5 minutes to cast a ballot,or someone who needs to be told on who and what to vote for.Either case it is reprehensible.

So today,Wednesday, what did we get?Well we got more of the same.We elected a man to be our candidate for Senator, who didn't do a good job as a Congressman, and runs from his own record. We have Judy Topinka, and as I write this a heated close race between Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard. What have all these politicians have in common? They have corruption around them, one way or the other.Come November,it really doesn't matter who wins on either Party, because they are all the same.

We had a real chance for change, not the bad change that President Obama and his policies have given us so far,but a change in how politicians will actually serve the people.Patrick Hughes and Adam Andrzejewski, they were the real change we can believe in, they were the hope the state of Illinois needed. I guess the Party leaders, local and national got nervous when you hear candidates say they were going to change the business of politics in Illinois, by opening things up,audit departments, and so on and so on.What were they so afraid of? What are they hiding? God forbid to have our elected officials have to answer to us,what a crazy concept huh?The old Party bosses think they know better, they are an elitist crew, and they do what they choose and don't worry about us,the people.Any wonder why Illinois politicians are thought of in a bad light, and why so many ended up in jail?

I ask all self thinking Republicans not to cast a vote for Mark Kirk.Don't scream and tell me Kirk will slow down the Obama agenda, remember this is the same man who voted YES to Cap&Trade, and also known as Pelosi's favorite Republican. We need to send a message to the Party, that they can not walk all over us and our vote.Just remember if the National Party wasn't involved in this past election, and Kirk and others had to depend on local money,I guarantee a different out come.

This might be a slight setback, and just that a setback. We have to continue to get our message out there, and hold politicians feet to the fire.It hasn't even been a year yet, that the Tea Parties and Grassroots organization were born.We have only just begun. The corrupt politicians might think they won the battle, but I guarantee you, we will win the war.

God Bless the United States of America.

Why We Must Defeat Mark Kirk

This coming Tuesday,February 2,is primary day here in Illinois.Primaries are usually a second thought, but this primary is quite important. The most important seat in this election I believe is for President Obamas Senate seat. We need someone who will look out for all the people of Illinois, not just the selected few.I believe our Country is in peril,so it is very important to get someone in there who will look out for us,but more importantly look out for the Constitution of the United States.

To my friends and family who find it hard to vote Republican,I urge you,no I beg of you to vote for Patrick Hughes for Senate. He is a family man,who believes in life, our 2ND amendment rights and more importantly,he believes in the Constitution. All these and more are being taken for granted by the politicians in Washington, both the Republicans and the Democrats. Patrick Hughes will beholden to us the people, not the dirty Illinois Republican Party or special interest groups. He will listen to the voters, not like Mark Kirk who turned his back on the people of Illinois. Mark Kirk knew his 10Th district and the rest off Illinois was against Cap&Trade, but his special interest friends wanted a Yes vote, and a Yes vote they got.As someone who worked the phones calling Kirk for 2 weeks to oppose this Bill,I know first hand the anger that was out there against this disastrous Bill. This Bill will raise our utility prices in our homes from $2,000.-4,000 more per year, there is a call for a Green Audit on every home before it can be sold, and it also calls for the government to install a device on our automobiles as they will charge a fee for the distance we travel. This is just a small snippet into this 1500 page Bill,a Bill Mark Kirk DID NOT READ, but did vote YES. Is this the kind of Senator you want? Who only listens to the special interest, and ignores the constituents he was sent to represent?

Mark Kirk voted that parents NOT be notified when their minor child is to have an abortion, but your child at school can not get an aspirin without a note from the parent. Where is the logic here?

With a Mark Kirk vote,is also a vote for the continue backroom political deals with a Party who forgot what Republicans stands for.We need to take the Party back from politicians like Kirk, who don't believe in small government, low taxes, life, and upholding the Constitution. Our Founders believed that politicians should be servants to the people, and not the other way around.

So on Tuesday,February 2ND, PLEASE vote for Patrick Hughes,a candidate for the people and also the ONLY candidate who will vote NO on Cap&Trade.
